Kara Franklyn was born in Southern California but grew up in Walnut Creek where I went to school there, fought and played with my brothers and sister there, had my first heart broken there and made lifelong friends that no matter where I live will always be there for me! I have lived in several cities in California. From Monterey to Tahoe, DisneyLand to the San Francisco Zoo, it just doesn't get much better! I am married to my best friend, Pete makes me laugh, think and care about what is happening in our world! I am blessed to have family and friends who care about me and laugh at my really dumb jokes!!
The White House will be illuminated in pink tonight to promote breast cancer awareness. Also, the Naval Observatory residence where Vice President Joe Biden lives will also be illuminated in pink. The American Cancer Society estimates about 40-thousand people will die this year from breast cancer. I have had several friends and friends of friends who have had breast cancer. I will say it again, I am IN AWE of their courage, their strength and determination! Breast cancer can be such a scary word, but the people I have seen who have gone thru it have taken those words and made it their own! I think that is why I am such a big supporter of breast cancer awareness. I have met some truly amazing people who have beat this disease. Each fight is different, with obviously different outcomes, but the survivors or the ones who have passed on, ALL leave such an incredible legacy and have taught me that women can be tough when they need to be. We can be stubborn and we don't back down from the fight! I am so proud of Sunny 102.3 that we are supporting breast cancer awareness. With the help of Doctors Medical Center and Gabriels Jewlers anytime you go to the Sunny 102.3 website, WWW.Sunny102fm.com when you take the pink ribbon challenge, automatically a woman in our community will be able to receive a FREE mamogram! Some people say that the Fall/Winter seasons are the months when people gain the most weight. Between the colder weather, holiday parties and yummy comfort foods, I can see where they might be on to something.....! Summer is when people maintain or lose weight because they are so active, but again, there are so many barbecues, celebrations and sometimes the heat is just to hot to want to work out!!! Yes, I can spend ALOT of time giving you all sorts of reasons as to why to or not to work out!!! But I've been thinking alot lately about some of the clothes that are in my closet that I love that are on my "when I lose weight, I can get back into them again rack!" I've also been thinking that I'm just not happy with where I am health wise. I use to love to work out, elliptical machines were my friends, now I see one and I want to run the other way, only I don't run either! Sigh....it's time. At this moment, I will not give any more reasons or excuses as to why or why not I can work out, instead I am going to put all that energy into just doing it......Did you notice I said at this moment?! I am hoping, praying that even an ounce of motivation will stay with me, and each day a little more is added to it!! I've spent more time and energy NOT working out, I am going to try the other way, maybe, just maybe it will work?!!!! I'll let you know!
The Blue Angels will fly again next year. The U.S. Navy has announced funding for a full 2014 schedule for its Flight Demonstration Squadron. Federal sequestration cuts grounded shows across the country this year. The 2014 schedule includes more than two-dozen air shows across the nation!! Including San Francisco on October 11th and 12th, 2014!!! Pete and I have been going to see The Blue Angels every year since we first started dating. This year we were so bummed that all flights had been grounded. From the roar of the engines, to the speed and the afterburners, and so much more, I get such a rush watching these amazing pilots! Every year (except this year, not to bring that up AGAIN) we head to the city with thousands of others to watch them! Pete takes some incredible pictures and I pretty much stand there with a dopey grin!! The last year they were here, we stayed on the Treasure Island side to get a different view of the show! I loved it!! There in front of me was the entire city of San Francisco and flying over me were my guys! They would do their tricks over the water and come back and regroup by Treasure Island, flying right over us!! There were times I could see the pilots faces!! It is such a great time!! If you've been, hopefully you agree with me, if you haven't been, then you need to check it out!! It's free, the cost is more your patience!! You need to expect traffic and a few bad drivers! But it is so worth it!! So now you know where Pete and I will be next October 11th and 12th, how about you?!!!
