For a majority of her childhood in San Francisco, Jocelyn Enriquez had the opportunity to flex her vocal talents. From her early adolescent years performing with the San Francisco Girls Chorus and the San Francisco Opera Company later on, her stage experience eventually won her a recording contract with Classified Records by the time she turned 16. Her debut Lovely hit the streets in 1994, prompting Tommy Boy Records to take notice and release Enriquez's follow-up, conveniently titled Jocelyn three years later.
