The drummer who propelled Motörhead's groundbreaking thrash metal attack, Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor was born September 21, 1954, in Chesterfield, England. He replaced original Motörhead drummer Lucas Fox midway through recording the band's self-titled 1977 debut album; following completion of the 1980 classic Ace of Spades, Taylor broke his neck during a melee with a fan, sidelining him for the better part of a year.
